Are you spending too much time waiting? Recently I’ve found myself doing a lot of waiting and it gave me an opportunity to reflect on just how much time I’ve spent waiting. Do you spend too much waiting too?
Waiting is a big part of our lives and I think over time, we forget just how much time we actually spend waiting.
Often we wait for things we didn’t even know we were waiting for until it shows up and says, “Hey…here I am!” I’ve had a lot of these waiting situations of late.
We wait on time – for it to either slow down or speed up and sometimes we wish it would stand still. In that moment, we could wait on it forever.
We wait on things…people…events…we even wait on moments. Usually it’s the moments that we wish we could freeze.
We wait for calls…for jobs…for opportunities…for letters…emails…acknowledgments. We wait and wait and wait.
We wait for spring and fall and we wish we didn’t have to wait through winter’s bitter cold or the summer heat.
Sometimes we wait to be noticed…to matter enough…or wait until we feel brave to take that next step. We wait to be brave.
We wait for the truth to to come out or the lie to be exposed. We wait for justice and sometimes it never comes.
We wait for consequences to bad behavior.
Sometimes it doesn’t matter how long we wait because it won’t be long enough. What you’re waiting for might not happen.
We wait for retribution. We wait for good to win over evil and sadly…our waiting sometimes doesn’t make any difference.
We wait for insight…realizations…reconciliations…recognition…surrender…and grace.
We anxiously and patiently wait. We get tired of waiting.
We wait until we’re ready. We wait to arrive and we wait to go. We wait with hope and sometimes despair.
We wait for grief to leave us alone. We wait to heal.
We wait for people to show up…to step up…to shut up…to move up and sometimes just to give up.
Like children on Christmas morning we wait with bated breath and anticipation of what lies behind the closed door. We wait for moments that take our breath away.
We wait to be restored…revived and relieved.
We wait to be loved…accepted and fully seen.
We wait to say hello and goodbye. Sometimes we wait too long and other times – not enough and then there are those times we wasted our time waiting.
We wait in line. We wait our turn.
We wait to dance and sing and play. We wait because we’re too busy trying to wait for everything else.
We wait to start our lives until the wait is over and it’s the right time.
You’d think with all this waiting we’d be more in tune with how long we’ve waited…what exactly we’re waiting for and maybe…just maybe…we’d stop all the waiting and start LIVING!
Whatever you’re waiting for – Is it worth it?
What are you waiting for? Will you please leave a comment and let me know.
