A shift in the weather means a change is coming. As fall gently tiptoes its way in and we bid summer farewell, change is on the horizon. What lessons can we learn from fall when it comes to our own lives? Fall shows up in all its vibrant beauty before the shedding of leaves begins. We bask in its glory. We celebrate the harvest that fall brings to the Earth and we prepare (depending upon where you live) for darker, colder days of winter. On a deeper level, there is a shedding of what doesn’t serve nature anymore but in so doing the process is vibrant and glorious to witness. Right now…you can be like fall and shed your baggage.
What old baggage are you carrying around that gets in the way of your dreams and desires becoming reality? What is it that holds you back; and are you willing to do some personal exploration so you can finally get what you want? What shedding do you need to do so you have what you want? Are you willing to finally do it? Take a moment and really get clear about what you want and then ask yourself what’s holding you back?
Getting what you want is simple. It’s not easy…but it’s simple. We don’t have what we want because we hold on to what’s familiar and comfortable even if it doesn’t serve us or make us happy. Crazy, right?
Everything begins with awareness about what is actually stopping you in your tracks.
Here’s what you need to know…
1. Getting what you want requires change and the second the idea of change enters your brain – you’ve laid out the welcome mat for FEAR! Change and fear are best friends. You can’t make a change without dealing with fear. Know it and accept it because there’s no getting around it. The key is learning to manage the fear so you can have the change you want.
2. You’ve got to get out of the boat! Nothing and I mean nothing changes until you get out of your safety boat and into the water. Is the water filled with uncertainty? Yes! Is success guaranteed? No. We stay in our boat because it’s comfortable, not because it brings us any joy! Shedding your old baggage requires you to get out of your boat!
3. Don’t let the crew run the ship! This is the all time best advice I was ever given. The crew is your feelings and the ship is your brain. When you let your feelings make decisions for you especially when it comes to changing…you’ll never, every change because guess what? You won’t feel like it! No matter how much you try and rationalize this – no one ever feels like changing, because it’s uncomfortable and sometimes it’s downright painful.
So the question is – Why change? Why shed your baggage when you now it’s not going to be comfortable or easy? That is a question only you can answer. Sadly, most individuals don’t shed the stuff that doesn’t serve them anymore. Most individuals stay in exactly the same place all the while wondering why life doesn’t change.
It’s challenging and it’s hard, but it’s so worth it to actually begin taking the steps towards getting what you want. You don’t have to take massive action and upset your entire world. You can begin the shedding process one tiny leaf at a time. Take one small step towards creating the life you want. Discover the joy and vibrancy that accompanies this courageous step forward.
Shedding your baggage may take a long time, but with each step forward, you’ll glow more brilliantly…walk more confidently…and experience greater personal joy.
So I ask you…what baggage do you want to shed this fall?
